About the workshop:

Understanding properties of nonlinear partial differential equations modeling nonlinear wave phenomena is a fundamental challenge in pure and applied mathematics. In recent years the field has seen many advances in theory, numerics and applications. Long-established open problems have been successfully handled with new techniques, and new phenomena and models have been discovered. The goal of the workshop is to bring together experts in an informal setting to learn more about current trends in the field.

The workshop is part of a basic research program at Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations for the academic year 2008/2009.

Themes:

  • Hyperbolic conservation laws
  • Free boundary problems
  • Transport equations
  • Wave equations
  • Camassa-Holm and related equations
  • Compressible fluid flow
