First prize in the Brazilian contest “Photography – Science and Arts” awarded to CAS fellow
CAS fellow Wilson Ortiz has been awarded first prize for his picture "Visualizing Magnetic Fields in Superconductors".
Congratulations!
The picture is a magneto-optical image of magnetic flux penetrating into a superconducting film of Nb, patterned with a square lattice of antidots (square holes) with nanosize dimensions (nanosized holes are not directly visible). Each white trace of the «Christmas Trees» results from an avalanche of magnetic flux, which invades the sample enormously fast.
