Espen S. Ore has been employed at the
HIT Centre (developed from among other institutions the
Norwegian Computing Centre for the Humanities-NCCH) at the
University of Bergen since 1984. From 1980-83 he worked with
software development for various projects in the humanities
at the University of Oslo, and in 1995 he served as a
temporary director for the Wittgenstein Archives at the
University of Bergen (WAB).
He has worked in Greek papyrology and
has directed a project in runology which had as one of its
result a WWW-accessible database of runic inscriptions from
Bergen and an analysis of rune forms using statistical tools
has been published Fiona J. Tweedie and Craig Dougan:
"Computers, statistics, and the grouping of rune forms" in
DRH 98. Selected Papers from DRH 98, Glasgow 1998. He is now
serving as director of computing at the project Henrik
Ibsen's Writings.
Ore has also worked with multimedia
and hypertext and was directing NCCH's part in the
publication of electronic transcriptions and facsimiles of
Ludwig Wittgenstein's Nachlass, a collaboration project
between WAB, NCCH, and Oxford University Press.
