The handbook made available on this site was written
during the autumn of 2000 and the spring of 2001 by members of the research
group Editing medieval
manuscripts at the Centre
for Advanced Study in Oslo. It is a continuation
of the work initiated by the NorFa network Elektronisk
behandling av nordiske middelalderhåndskrifter
in the period 1994-1998. With the exception of a few chapters,
the handbook has been edited and written by Odd Einar
Haugen, Karl G. Johansson and Rune Kyrkjebø. In
addition, the handbook contains contributions from other
members of the research group, primarily in the form of text
examples and specific tools, such as DTD, XML files, style
sheets, fonts, etc. The names of the authors are stated in
each chapter or subchapter throughout the book. A number of colleagues outside the
research group have also contributed to the handbook,
directly or indirectly. They are mentioned in the preface to
the best of our ability, and we would like to thank them for
their contributions. We apologize for any omissions in this
respect, and will put this right as soon as it is pointed
out to us. In its present form, the handbook was
finalised by the middle of June 2001. The work will,
however, be carried on by the above mentioned editorial
board, supplemented by Matthew J. Driscoll (University of
Copenhagen). We hope to publish a revised and extended
version of the handbook, including a parallel English
version, by the end of 2001.
